Default Blue Screen Issues

Hi,

I recently bought a new mobo. When I attempted to boot up windows it would not, so i decided to just install a new copy of windows onto the drive, after i wiped it. Now my PC has two windows 7 options on startup, with only the second one working. also, and more importantly, my PC will blue screen on startup if there is no optical drive plugged in, even though i have no use for the optical drive. any way to make it so I do not have to choose which windows 7 to start up with every time I start? also, any way that i can remove my optical drive and have my computer still function? Frustrating me for a while, though none of these problems affect the pc at all.

I'm running this on an i7 2600k, on an ASUS maximus iv extreme-z.

thanks!!
