Well the 8500 is more of a multimedia general use card not a gaming card. You'd be far better off with the GS or even a GT.

I think the best place to start before buying any new parts is to download SiSoftware Sandra XII 2008 (13.12) download from Guru3D.com Install it (its free)

after installing fire it up and find the benchmarks tab, I would suggest running a benchmark on your memory bandwith and your physical disks, after the benchmark pay attention to where your system stands next to the test systems that the software compairs with yours.

I strongly feel that the problem your experiencing is not related to your video card (unless its malfunctioning) i say this because i played and finished Crysis on my laptop that has a geforce go 7600 wich is much more inferior to your 8600, and americas army's system requirements are much much lower.

Also, your memory bandwith benchmark will quickly point out if your memory, or something in the memory pathway is malfunctioning.

I mention checking the performance of your physical disks because there has been some buzz around the net about there being an incompatability problem with the asus p5k and western digital hard drives that cause extreemly slow transfer speeds. In your case it would show up as choppy gameplay due to slow texture loading.

I think that incompatibility has been fixed but you never know, the benchmark will tell you for sure.

Sounds like your thinking of getting a new Video card though, and i'm not really trying to disuade you from upgrading ;) i think everyone in the world should have the most up to date parts :D Also i'd just like to throw in my 2 cents on RAM, based on my experience, Crucial Ballistics are great overclockers, they run fast and they've took all the beatings i've given them so far and havnt wrecked em yet ;D

The program does many many things, benchmarking is only part of it. There is a tab that has a bunch of benchmarking options. Memory bandwith and Physical disks are just two of many.

I got the ocz plat 2's from pc village for $25 AR! It's $30ish right now but this memory is very good. With the original poster's setting, he could overclock to 400x8 and still be 1:1 fsb/ram. That would speed things up for apps (but not games - for which a better grafix card is required).
