My System Specs

Default Wiring Delrin Vandal Resistant Illuminated Switch

I'm planing to buy 3 of these 1 momentary(for the optical drive) and 2 latching (1 for fan and 1 for lighting).
i'm pretty sure i have the momentary switch figured out but not so sure about the latching switch, here is a diagram i made

http://img151.imagevenue.com/img.php...g_122_15lo.jpg

is this the correct way to wire the switch for latching, i'm planning to connect the wires to a Female/Mare molex connection 1 end to the psu the other to the fan/lighting.

The Switch i'm using supports up to 12V "LEDs (ratings @ 20mA) White: 1500 mcd 3.0-12.0 V"
Delrin Vandal Resistant Illuminated Switch Black - White Ring Products Model: VSW-BK-RING-WT [VSW-BK-RING-WT] : Performance-PCs.com, ... sleeve it and they will come

do i need the second ground wire for position 2? did i mess it up completely?

if use suppliers wiring harness can use 12v on switch but bare switch LED need to use a resisstor calculator 10% 470 Ohm .3watt

i'm guessing here 1,4 is normally open and 2,3 is normally closed

best use a continuity meter on pins 1,2,3,4 to see whats open or closed or find common with pushed /un-pushed

from your diagram latching seems to me that led will light up with switch used and un-latching is LED is not work with switch action

latching means switch will lock when depressed
un-latching is momentary no locking switch action

here is a picture of the switch
Image View | White Illuminated Bulgin Style "Momentary" Vandal Switch - 22mm - Black Housing - Ring Illumination - FrozenCPU.com

sorry by suppliers wiring harness do you mean the quick disconnects?

found these PPCS Pre-Wired Vandal Switch Cable Assembly (Pro Solder-Type) - Latching - Sleeved Products Model: VANDAL-CABLE-LATCH [VANDAL-CABLE-LATCH] : Performance-PCs.com, ... sleeve it and they will come
it should work

edit: for the momentary it should be position 3 & 4 right since it's a power switch for the optical drive?

meant the pre-wire from shanks shop you've linked

basically it's a 2xSP switch with a LED (3.4v @ 20mA) mounted internally with leads on back of switch center

and rest is contacts of witch I not known configuration for is no clearly posted on net

best find out by using a multi-meter (setted on diode check) go through contacts pushed/unpushed

note: 50mA 24V max rating for contacts so 25mA 12v

another note use a solid state relay with switch will give higher Amp load

hey i made a new diagram,
i've tested the first scenario with a momentary switch(no led, only 2 terminals) and it worked fine. as for the led connection is it really necessary for a resistor on the specs it says

"LEDs (ratings @ 20mA) White: 1500 mcd 3.0-12.0 V
NOTE: LED is rated for 3.0-12.0 Volts and the motherboard LED headers are 3.3V. This is acceptable"

I'm not that educated when it comes to this kind of stuff

what means only will survive if MB header is 3.3v anything else is blown LED so YES use RESISTOR

why you want dvd momintary? it action is same as start button

i contacted ppcs and they told me directly no reistor needed, as for the momentary i was told an on off switch would not work, but if you're asking why i'm adding a momentary switch for a dvd drive i made a "stealth drive". will update once i get the switches
