Default Wireless problem

my buddy at work just moved and is having a problem connecting his laptop to his wireless router, nothing has changed since he moved exept that everything was unplugged for 8 hours. when he connects his xbox it works fine but when he connects the laptop he just get limited access, no internet. anyone know what the problem could be? i told him today that he should start with disabling the wireless on his laptop and try re-enabling it while i searched for an answer. thanks to all who can help.

Whenever I have a power outage, router gets unplugged, etc, I usually reset my router to default. The router may have also reset itself, so the name changed, some setting changed, etc. Without knowing too much about how much he knows, are you sure he is connecting to the correct network?

Windows 7 home network seems to mess with setting sometimes too. What OS, and router does he have?

I'd get into the networking center in windows and delete all the saved networks. I find that even if the router settings have changed a little bit the saved network settings don't work.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
After that, would take a bit more information to TS.
Insure the router and laptop don't have static routes. What router does he have?

so the router is not giving the laptop an ip address. i messed around with it for an hour or so and could not get it to connect, im going to go over there again sometime shortly and reinstall windows and what not and will have access to the router at that point.
