i doubt its the drive since its running the xp partition fine, dual booting on the same drive has always been touch an go for me in the past an you could be experiencing just more of the same.

XP is on a different drive then Vista, I took out the vista drive and put in a different drive and re-installed Vista on the new drive and it all works fine now.
