Default blue screen. wont boot.

problem:
i was force shut down by holding power button... system off then quickly press power button again to boot up..... then quickly again hold power button to shut down... repeatly for like the 4th time and when start up again..... it wont start up properly...

it says:
bad system config info stop 0x00000074 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 147c blue screen

i thought i can still go to safe mode but turns out i cant. i can only use unbuntu live cd without installing (have not tried installing) to surf around but browser crash everytime i watch videos for 5min and up.

aim:
i am aiming to make it boot back to normal without lossing stuff. without reformating.

i tried:
downloading ULTIMATE BOOT CD and put it on

i press f12 while powering up and it takes to black screen choosing drive to boot and theres a "hard drive diagnose" option.

so i use the hard drive diagnose option. results says:

dvd drive = not supported
dvd writer drive = not supported
hard drive = pass

so the hard drive pass. nothing wrong with the hard drive? but how can i not boot? i even try to go to safe mode but it end up blue screen.

and is the dvd drive and dvd rewrite drive normal to say not supported? who can help?

memtest.

Have you tried booting with only one stick? Then swapping the stick through the various ram slots, then checking the other sticks?

There is memtest on your UBCD. Under memory. Use the version 4.x.

Check if your rams sticks aren't sticking out first.

are you watching youtube videos by any chance and is that the time it crashes and or is that time your system froze and you had to shut down the copmuter by holding down the power button?

I had a similar issue a while back with an amd build. For that all i did was, i disabled, I think it's called the Hardware accelator. For that, you just on youtube, just watch any video and simply right click on it and then go to settings and there simply take the check mark off of, "enable hardware accelaration" and simply hit close and i think you should be good. Try it out, if it doesnt work, sorry about that. and good luck!

Which OS are you using? do you have the OS disk maybe try and do a repair using the OS disk , I doubt that it is a hard ware issue because you are able to boot a Live Linux distro and if you cannot boot into safe mode then it is very likely a OS problem.
if you are using win 5 you can download the win7 repair disk for free it is a boot repair disk

i dont have the os disc. it was a dell computer and got it straight form dell and dell does not include the actual os disc. i think it storage inside the hard drive. as you know these days most company dont include actual os disc.

it is using windows xp. do you have any other idea to fix it?

everything was working fine. no freeze. i just stupidly hold down power button rapidly. off and on off and on for for like 3,4,5 times. i think i was watching porn at the time and guest knock on door and i hold down to power off then i think my mental problem activated making me hold down power to turn on then hold power rapidly repeatly.

update:
i just tried checking the ram sticks and it is installed correctly. i even switch sticks place. then i tried the memtest from Ultimate Boot CD using the 4. something version and windows memory test. none finds any errors. so what now? hard drive test and all good. memory test and all good. anybody know how to stop this blue screen?

If I think I have this right:
1. memtest turns up nothing
2. computer crashes with XP, and also with Ubuntu (are you able to recreate this? Or was the Ubuntu crash a fluke?)
3. in Ubuntu, crash occurs when watching videos???

Crashing with two different OSes tells me its hardware, and not software. You have already ruled out ram it seems. If you get crashes in Ubuntu and Windows, and the issue happens more often when watching videos, I would think its your video card, or possibly the psu.

So again, if you have the problems with two different OSes then I would next see if you could swap the GPU first, and then the PSU if the problem persists.
