Default What is this adapter for?

It would be great if it would slow down my noisy fan, but what is it?

That's a custom speed mod to lower the voltage delivered from the power supply to the fan. The little round device with the 4 bands of different colour is called a resistor.

looks like one of the resistors that came with Zalman fans. Plug it in and see what voltage you get on the other side of the resistor.... probably somewhere between 7 to 9 volts, I think.

at first i thought it was one adapter that came with geforce 7800 cards, but the conenctors are emant for 3 pin case fans from what i can see...

weird anyway

I've got a handful of them from my Zalman ZM-F3's, it's definitely a voltage reducer for a fan as Ari and Per said.
