Default Question about motherboard posting.

I have this small problem where if my computer's power is cut from doing a hard shutdown (if i freeze for example and hold down my power switch) my motherboard will NOT post! Now what happened just a few minutes ago was I saw a dust bunny on my video card so I shut off my computer, (forgot to ground myself) then I shut off the PSU and waited like 5 seconds, picked it up the bunny, and when i turned on the PSU, and tried to boot it wouldnt post. I had to shut it off, and i tested this like 10 times, but it posts fine now. Did i like do something by touching the PCB of my videocard while not being grounded? I know that its hard to understand but any help would be nice :) Thanks guys!

not really if it passes a good stress test properly.

you may have gotten the bios to think it hard locked or such and its prone to

,or may be prone to, safe mode? that an asus mobo?

I just figured out what the problem was, it had nothing to do with my video card but instead with my new keyboard which if I plug into the PS/2 port it make my motherboard malfunction.

It like would post 1 out of 5 times with this thing plugged into the PS/2 port, but its fine if its plugged in via USB.

This motherboard is just full of surprises!

Wow are you serious? The EXACT same thing has been happening to me too. I hooked up this DAS mechanical I just got on the weekend through the PS/2 port and its been a non stop problem with posting issues and hard locking, until I plugged into into USB instead. Seems completely fine now. I dunno, maybe its just coincidence and my power supply is dying though too. Computers some times .. ughh :(

Now its happening when I have it plugged in via USB. Great... This is getting kind of ridiculous. I dont really want to test it over and over, I already did it like about 15 times and 3 times it didnt post. It's NEVER done this before. But as soon as I got this keyboard it started to happen. I dont really know what to do.. It seems to be fine as long as I dont turn it on and off a lot. It's okay after leaving it off overnight. Whats weird though is that it still happens even if I switch off my power supply until my MOBO's light turns off. I dont know if its because of the keyboard or if something in my computer is failing. Also when I say it doesnt post (I never installed that tiny speaking thingy) I mean I just get a blank screen while my fans are running. Usually it takes like 3 seconds then it says "Loading Asus Express Gate" Must be the keyboard because again it just started to happen now!

Try with your old keyboard for a few days.

Clear CMOS by pulling the battery for good measure.
I know my motherboard reacts to having my phone plugged in during POST from a cold startup, so any peripheral, USB / Firewire / eSATA can be to blame as well. You can try updating BIOS or messing with the "USB" settings as well.

If you want to stress your USB, how about using hard drive benchmark (e.g. CrystalDiskMark) on a ton of USB keys and external HDDs at a time?
