Default usb controller problems

I noticed the other day that my computer took an unusually long time to boot up, at first i didnt think much of it, thought maby it was just me as i dont often shut down my computer. Then i decided i wanted to play with my ram a little and did a bunch of rebooting and i noticed that after every reboot, the computer took about 15 seconds after post to show the asus flash screen. I know for sure that it didnt do that when i first bought it so i shut off the bios quick boot function and saw that when it was initializing my USB controller it would hang for about 15 seconds before continuing on. I set the bios back to defaults thinking it might have been something i did, but it didnt help, now i'm worried that somehow i inadvertantly damaged it at some point while overclocking. Anyone else have/had this issue before?

Asus P5K deluxe wifi bios revision 0705

Did you try an actual cmos reset yet?

That would be my first step... just make sure you mark down all of your current OC settings so you can easily return to your current settings.

Step one complete, unfortunatly now we procede to step 2... do you think actually flashing the bios with the same version (i believe the one i have is the most current) would help? Do you think that it could have been caused from overclocking the pci bus? or overclocking in general?

Ok, problem solved... Now dont go thinking that i didnt do the most obvious thing in the world while troubleshooting... i unpugged every usb item i have on my pc (which are very numerous... they just CANT make enough usb ports...) EXCEPT the keyboard of course... cause i need that... who would have thought my shiny new Reclusa keyboard would cause a 15 second hang while initialising the usb controller?? Well... it does.

I guess im going to have to put up with it because my old crappy keyboard's F keys dont work unless you install microsoft drivers. I format ALOT so it never seemed like they were ever installed so i trashed it after fighting with it for 2 years.

Glad to hear that you're back up and running, but I wanted to clear this up a bit....

When I said "reset cmos" I didn't mean for you to flash bios.

There are either two or three jumper pins on your motherboard for "clear cmos". If it's three jumpers, you need to move the jumper itself (with the power off) from pins 1+2 to pins 2+3, leave it for 15 seconds or so, and then put it back to pins 1+2. If it's only got 2 pins then you need to (again with power off) short those two pins together with a screwdriver or something similar (again for 15 seconds or so).

What this does is remove all of the non-default information from the cmos if you are having a bios conflict of some form.

ah, sorry you mis understood lol, when i said step one was complete, i ment i reset the cmos. but it still didnt work, so i thought flashing it might do something different. i didnt really think it would do anything different, but then again if i knew enough about it to actually KNOW it wouldnt work, i wouldnt have needed to ask :D but thank you for the clerification. I actually wasnt "sure" i reset the cmos right, so your clerification made it more clear to me anyway. Thank you again

Default Same problem with my P4P800SE and Reclusa

I too am experiencing crazy delays (up to a minute or more) after plugging in my new MS/Razer Reclusa on my older rig with an ASUS P4P800SE. I'm actually pretty disappointed with the keyboard because it takes so long for my PC to POST now and was going to return it Staples. I was just debating whether I should get another one or not (since I do like the design of the keyboard) but since you're having the same problem tzetsin then the problem seems like a defect of the hardware itself. I tried flashing my BIOS, messed around with every USB setting in the BIOS and it still hangs the boot on POST. I am worried that the device may have overpowered the controller hub when it initialized and that it may have damaged my board slightly.

Bummer

after switching out the keyboard with a different one my computer behaves normally. i dont think its caused any damage to my pc, but it really sounds like this could be a problem with the keyboards themselves. the keyboard has two usb ports on it which i thought was awsome untill i found out that no matter what i plug into them i get "this usb port is underpowered" or some bs like that... cant even plug my sidwinder mouse into it. i can only assume that because the keyboard keys are backlit, its drawing too much power from the port to support anything else that needs power... your right, i like the keyboard too, but i hate it when i have to start my pc... and the usb hub part of it is pretty useless.

I exchanged it for a new one today at Staples but I haven't had a chance to plug it in and give it a go. I suspect that it will do the same thing as the previous one but I'll post my findings either way. I also sent a note to Razer and of course they told me to contact Microsoft so I'm waiting to see what MS says about this (not holding my breath) It would be nice if this could be corrected with a firmware update like other Razer products but again I'm not holding my breath.

This one does the same thing....time to search for another backlit keyboard. I noticed on the bottom that this thing draws 500ma which is the upper limit for most USB controllers. It's too bad cause I liked the keyboard but I'm not waiting for over a minute for my PC to POST, that's just insane.
