Yeah, my issue wasn't the same as yours, however there's no harm in trying... :)

sounds like a similar problem i had when i first tried to hook up my Turtle Beach usb head-set. sound was fine, but the mic was a complete no-go. then the kb (Logi G15) would go screwie, followed by multiple cmos resets. was getting a message about "exceeding bandwidth".
in the end, i was able to solve the problem by installing a usb controller card. seems these backlite, usb kb's draw alot, coupled with whatever other usb device's you may have plugged in.
hope this helps.

I guess that this will be the next thing I'll try...

I noticed that the bios recognised my usb keyboard as a hub...guess this is caused by the two usb ports on it...I just thought it was kind of weird ! I also managed ( I don't know how, it just happened ! ) to get to a screen that was saying "initializing usb devices..." but nothing happened...it was just frozen there. Something I forgot to mention is that the keyboard do light up after the beep during the post...it's just that, like i said, the only thing i see is a black screen. Another weird behavior is that the keyboard's light stays on when I shut the pc down by holding the start button.

Thumbs up

Ok... I isolated the problem. I borrowed my friend's saitek Eclipse usb keyboard, and guess what...my pc boots, no problems. So that's good news; the motherboard's alright. I just don't understand why my merc decided to bug one day to another ??? I really have to get a usb extendion card !

Thanks for your replies and suggestions everybody !!!

Alright, after doing quite a bit of searching, I found out that other p5k-e users had the same issue after updating to bios 1004 and 1006. It is, as a mather of fact, a problem related to those BIOS and usb keyboards that have usb ports on them. Untill Asus gets a BIOS that fixes that issue, there are about three solutions to adopt :

1-) Disable the warning in BIOS that says no keyboard is plugged in when booting. That way, I can boot with no kb plugged and plug it when I'm at the os welcome screen ( though I need a ps/2 kb to be able to get in BIOS ).

2-)Boot with my ps/2 kb and wait 'till I get to the os welcome screen to plug my merc stealth in.

3-)disable usb 2.0 in BIOS. It works, except that doing this will make your usb ports work at usb 1.1 speed.

And that's about it. I also tryied a usb pci-e 1x controller card... ran outta luck again as I think it's defective : As soon as I get in windows, it searches for the driver and then hangs there. Done that in xp and vista...

another thing you could do is just live with it taking extra time while booting, and using a different keyboard if you need to boot alot over a short period of time.
