Default (SOLVED) i7 2600 only shows 4 logical processors

I keep getting problems with my new hardware.

This time it every software that scans my computer shows 4 logical processors instead of 8.
When i first got the computer it showed 8 but then it just vanished one day.

What could be the problem?

windows7 x64 ultimate.

EDIT: ok i solved it. Hyper threading was disabled.
What does Hyper threading do? does it make the games run any better??

hyperthread on means you have 4 virtual cores to play with,as well as your 4 real cores.

it will help in applications that do use all the available cores, real or virtual.

say youre encoding a file,it will help. say you're playing metro 2033, it wont help.
