Default External HD and bios

Hi there. I have a Gigabyte EP45-UDR3 board, E8400 processor, F12 bios OC'd to 3.61 for the last 3 years. Recently bought a WD External usb drive. When I reboot my pc with the drive plugged in (usb port) my bios settings go back to default, it won't keep my OC settings. If its unplugged everything works fine. Anyone have an idea why this happens and if I can do anything to solve it? Thanks.

Are you plugging into a motherboard usb (rear) or the case USB? My first guess would be an issue with the case usb header.

I'm plugging into the usb on the board. Haven't tried the case usb to see if it makes a difference.
