Default Asus A8N-E Boot from USB
Hi there, my brother gave me his old computer and I am building a FreeNAS box out of it. I have an internal PCI USB Card with USB Port and I plugged in a 4GB Thumb Drive. FreeNAS install detected and installed the OS to it but there is not an option in the Bios to boot from USB even with the USB plugged in.

Can anyone shed some light on this? do I need to get another AM2 board that does support booting from USB?

If bios does not support it then you are going to have to change boards.

As I recall the A8N's wouldn't even boot from a USB floppy (and that's a S939 board)

I am looking at getting the Asus M2N68-AM PLUS. I should be able to put the same Sempron Proc in it. I hope!

Thanks for the links, I really appreciate it. I ordered:

Athlon II X2 250 Processor $50
M2N68-AM PLUS Motherboard $54
Kingston 2GB DDR3 (1x1) $28

Should get a half decent FreeNAS box out of it.
