What type of mouse are you using?

I am unfamiliar with that board, but off the top of my head I would check BIOS settings.

Perhaps your USB ports are disabled?

it's a usb mouse with a usb to ps/2 adapter. It works fine on my other system in this configuration. With the new build ther's not even power to the mouse.

Are you using the USB port or the PS2 port or have you tried both?

If it works in the other system still then obviously it is not the mouse but something in either Vista or the way you have your motherboard configured.

Why do people STILL use these things. Just plug in the usb mouse properly.

Yeah, that thought occurred to me too, enaberif, unfortunately about an hour after I posted the problem.I think my brain cramped after a long first-build.I'm gonna try it the way it was meant to work in the first place tomorrow and let you know how it goes.Strange that it didn't work with the adapter though,it works fine this way on my old system.

Are you overclocking it?

If so, first off download CoreTemp to see if your temperatures are good. Then the best way to see if a system is stable is by using software such as Prime95.

Make sure you run Prime95 overnight to ensure stability. A 30 minute test won't tell you much.
