My System Specs

Default TX 650 and Crossfiring of 2 4890's

I was just wondering if it's safe to cross fire 2 4890's with a tx 650. Tx 650 has two 8 pin connectors for pci-e. I was thinking of putting one of each to each video card and then using the molex connectors for the 6 pins? Is this safe to do? As there is only one 12 v rail but it has above 52amps. Please let me know. My borad is a p55a-ud3, cpu is i5 750 and I have two hard drives and the case is an antec 1200 gaming case with 6 total fans that are all connected. Thanks

given that you wont need more than 300 watts for the gpus, i believe you should be fine.

what is the rest of the system like?

that tx is pretty capable. just look on the side and keep it under max for 24/7 usage.

Thanks Dang,

Here is my system:

Antec 1200 case with 6 total fans all connected with the mloex connetors.
P55a-ud3 lga 1156 mohterboard
I5 750 quad
Wd raptor 10000 rpm 150 g hard drive
wd 500 gig hard drive 7200 rpm
and thinking of putting 2 4890's in cross fire, This is what I read on the minimum requirement site for AMD:

XFX's oc'ed HD 4890 900M XXX Rocks
Fudzilla
XFX HD 4890 900M XXX is currently the best and fastest AMD’s single-GPU card, and if you decide on buying it we promise you won’t regret it.

ATI Radeon HD 4890 System Requirements
  • PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
  • 500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)"
  • Certified power supplies are recommended. Refer to AMD Certified Power Supplies for a list of Certified products
  • Minimum 1GB of system memory
  • Installation software requires CD-ROM drive
  • DVD playblack requires DVD drive
  • Blu-ray™ playback requires Blu-ray drive
  • For a complete ATI CrossFireX™ system, a second ATI Radeon™ HD 4890 graphics card, an ATI CrossFireX Ready motherboard and one ATI CrossFireX Bridge Interconnect cable per graphics card (included) are required.

However, when I got to the recommended psu's for the model I have, this is what I get:
Certified Power Supply Details

Title:TX650W (650W)
Manufacturer:Corsair
Power Connectors 2x3:0
Power Connectors 2x4:2*
Products SupportedNumber of Cards
ATI Radeon™ HD 4870
ATI Radeon™ HD 48701
ATI Radeon™ HD 48502
ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 X21
ATI Radeon™ HD 48901

See I am wondering, if I do use the molex connectors for the 6pin for each gpu, would that be a problem, as the dedicated 12 v rail that has 52 amps is only using the two pci cables? or if I do use the additional 6 pin cables connected through molex would that be ok? I dont know if I am making sense lol
