My System Specs

Default GPU artifacts, everywhere, even on BIOS screen...

Hope you guys can help me, I'm really screwed!
I was playing Farcry when suddenly the text began to blur and massive artifacts appeared, in the game, and in the windows desktop when I exited, and the computer began to be less responsive until it crashed.
I then restarted, when the surprise came, the artifacts were on the start up to!, they are everywhere! and I can't boot windows in normal mode, now I'm writing from safe mode, and there are still artifacts. Is my card gone, because I have no warranty (1.5+ year old card). My car is an sapphire ATi 4850.

Sorry to say but I would guess card is dead. Try reseating it and if that doesnt work you can conclude it is shot. GL

second that if the heatsink popped off maybe it's overheating but i doubt it.

WHAT!? SO SOON!, oh my god... well, guess I will rely on PS3 for gaming... But the card was perfectly well, and just all the sudden it dies? My luck.
EDIT- checked the heatsink, all is perfect...

Well I'd imagine it is dead... when I had this happen to me on a really old nvidia card.. I checked what the cause was and saw that the fan no longer worked.. and I guess it overheated.. never bothered to buy a fan replacement so I bought a brand new card.

Look at the heatsink if it's not ripped off. You could ever try a friend card to see if it's not your PCI-e slot that is going crazy but that usually wont cause artifact. I would call the card dead personally.

shalom.

is the fan spinning when your computer boots? if yes, does it spin very slowly?

look for discolorations, swollen/burst capacitators, if you can see any

swap your card in another slot/frends computer...same? get another one

I've cleaned the card's dust, I don't remember seeing anything strange, the fan spins normally, but the GPu surface is very hot (and always was), it has an artic cooling twin turbo heatsink.

hmmm....remount the cooling unit and in the process get a better look.

if nothing comes out of it.....maybe just maybe take a look at the bios file and do some

tweaking, but thats before you bake it or paper weight its functions.

Thumbs down

Well, switched to onboard nvidia 6150, or whatever card this is, can't connect TV, cant view monitor in full HD, can't play... sorry I cannot afford buying another card. Apparently Ps3 obsolete 7800 ultra can do better.
