Default somebody explain me this pretty please

so im testing some dudes matx build with my 24 inch sammy, and i shut it off, but then notice the video card fan is still running....so i pull the plug on the psu...and its still running...i disconnect the monitor and it stops, of course.

it works perfect, no reboots, shorts, whatever. is the monitor cable supposed to pass enough current for the vga fan to work?

what the heck is going on,lol?

danke

just a giga matx, and im using a giga 9600

i plugged in another monitor and it doesnt do it, i changed the monitor cable and it still does it, doesnt do it with the cable and another monitor either.

its just this combination here that makes it spin, lol.

not a joke, just freakin weird. i mean, if i leave it on and forget about it, can it burn stuff?

its just like the old enermax psus that kept spinning the fan and some folks jumped up from that.

good thing for the gpu, i guess. if it doesnt fry anything.

something like that should be implemented on all active fannage units, have the fan spin a few secs more than usual at least, if not longer

If I had to guess, I'd say there's a cracked capacitor in the "power supply" portion of your monitor, and it's leaking just enough current (~150mA tops most likely) back through the cable to keep the fan on. Obviously you shouldn't leave it like that, since there's a slight chance of a fire (only if the capacitor fully fails and there's a short so your dissipated power goes sky-high - I've seen it in the automotive field).

thats an interesting answer. trouble is it happens only with that monitor+card combo, nothing else does it.

and thats my main monitor lol for browsing on here etc.
