Default MOBO fan is very loud now.

Hey, just found this website, so great to have a Canadian site like this. Anyways, just wanted to say that. I have a old PC, using Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe motherboard, I know there are problems with the mobo chipset fan. 7 years is ok with me, for only a fan problem, but would like to fix the issue, as it is very loud. Can not find any stores that have replacements, any suggestions would be awesome.

Also if there is a replacement to buy somewhere, is it easy to replace? Anything I should be aware of. Thanks

welcome aboard maite.

the best thing you can do is yank the stock sucker out, and direct some airflow in the general area. if you use a 'rear blower' type card in the one slot next to it it will suck just enough from the surrounding area to cool it down.

the screws are very small, you will need a jeweler's set. or some pliers and snatch the fan out.

did this on a buds pc a little while ago.

can use vantec cooler to replace orginale cooler.

just need a pair of needle nose pliers to squeaze tangs on clips that are on the back side of

motherboard Careful not to scratch MB with pliers

you didn't say your location, to direct where to get fans

+1 forthe vantec. It's what we use to do at job ,it's cheap ( like 15$ ) and not that hard to replace if you know how to get a mobo out of case.

The Vantec's work great, I've used them on a few boards before I got wise and just started buying boards with decent passive cooling.

Thanks for the help guys, I am located in Edmonton Alberta, have been to Bcom, and MemoryExporess, they both tell me theres nothing I can do about it, but I built this thing 7 years ago, and it still works fine, so really dont want to give up on the thing. It's my baby ;).

I have a couple more questions.

1 - Do I have to take out the mobo. to release the fan?
2 - my case has 4 fans, none pointing directly on the bad mobo. fan, but can I just take off the bad one and leave it off?

Thanks.

yes, you would need to take it out. that or destroy the stock fan without killing the chippie underneath

it can work, but its tall(er)

get any fan to point there, even if its a couple inches away

As you can see the NB32K barely clears the capacitors on a singlie slot 6800GS

The Vantec is low enough to fit under the video cards (not the best example but I can't seem to find any picks of my P5N-SLI where I used the Vantec)
