Default SCII slow ?

Hello,

My cousin claims to be having some problems which I have partially noticed while playing Starcraft 2. Among which, there is a weird yellow screen which appears after alt tabbing. He claims it is choppy when he starts a game and after it goes fine. When pressing options or loading a map, he says its quite long(more than 15seconds for options). But the problem appears to be on and off.

He is using maxed details, maxed everything.

First of all, his systam specs:
Phenom II X3 @ 3.2ghz
6gb RAM (2x1+2x2)
GTX 460 768mb
Asus m4a785td-v evo
7200.12 500gb HDD
Corsair 650TX
Win 7
The resolution he uses is quite low for now, I believe 1280x1024 (max would be 1600x1200).
Temps are very low, forgot the actual numbers, but GPU is under 70 and CPU has a problem monitoring temps, but I'd say its below 50 for sure.

In comparison, my system runs the game smoothly at 1920x1200. I find it odd, since aside from the processor and the HDD, his system should be better than mine. Processor shouldn't be a concern since the game is dual threaded and either currently his system is running a bit faster than mine. As for the HDD, it should only help loading time ?

I will ask him to come and look at this thread (and perhaps make his 2nd or 3rd post) to give you more details. But it would be very much appreciated if you could guide us to what the problem might be, because as it is now, I am quite puzzled.

first thing's first as always.. drivers? change 'em up - even if fully updated. revert to old ones, go for beta ones.. whatever.

turn off background programs?

There is not much running in the background. Either firefox and MSN or only MSN.

As for the drivers... I guess I am brain frozen, I will have to look at it.
Edit: I know he has the latest drivers.

it's gotta be something software if the game runs fine after a while.

if his hardware comes out of every test with thumb up? then its software 100%. worst case scenario(unless fixed by updating/reinstalling drivers) as you may have to fresh install the whole thing in some extreme 'which is the problem' cases

I haven't looked at that. Next time I have his computer in my hands (or perhaps tonight if I can get a hold of him, I will walk him through).
