SCREEN BLACK BUT CAN STILL OPEN WINDOWS
 
My screen went black I did a ctrl alt del and got the task manager, from there I can open diffrent programs and windows but I can't see my desktop. I am running on Windows Vista Basic and this a an HP laptop with and intel Celeron M processor.

heya. did you try to reboot? may ask you to revert to a previous (working) state upon said reboot.

1) Make sure your in proper monitor mode; should be a fn key on your keyboard to switch between the two.
2) Shine a bright light on the screen; if you can see the desktop your lcd is dead.

Only seems that after some error ( maybe driver ) the processor have been unable to recover the desktop. That kind of thing happen. Test memory and HD just to be sure.

to the OP, I assume you've tried rebooting? do you see your desktop at all during a reboot?
