Thanks, just put the card back in I will have to buy a screw driver that fits, I did find one but it was so small I could only use my fingers to try and twist it.. the screw is in there really tight.. I feel like it's been super glued in lol.. but yeah maybe a screw driver with a bigger handle is all I need.. but it may be a while before I get one..

EDIT: Just noticed this, don't know if it means anything but I thought it was interesting, the lines on the screen appear over "Everything" but I just realised not the Desktop Icons .. kind of weird considering they show over everything else..

To take the screws out with a smaller screwdriver. Just use pliers on the screwdriver and push down on top of it with your hand so it doesn't slip.

wow I never heard of baking a video card to fix it. Good to know.
I had a nvidia ti4600 way back when that did the same thing, ended up just returning it, but I'll have to remember baking it for the future.

Just remember that it's a last ditch effort and that all other possible solutions should be attempted first.

I have to admit to being a bit skeptical, but contrary to popular belief, you can actually teach an old dog new tricks, especially if that old dog gets to see the results first hand. :)

Yes Hdvision, if you can return it that is always the best option. My warranty expired about two years ago so this is really just going to be for the fun of the experiment *feels like mythbuster* .

I did try the pliers trick and had no luck with it. That is what made me think they were super glued in.. might go down to the store today and see what they have.. the screws that I can not get out are just to hold the plastic shroud on.

EDIT:

Does anyone know how to activate sounds in Safe Mode with Networking? Finally not capped and I want to check out some Youtube videos lol..

Just in case anyone was wondering, I did the Oven Trick and it did not work out too well for me..

My oven is pretty old so the temps could have been off also I did not put the card in upside down - didn't know until after that was what you're supposed to do, the card smelled of burnt plastic and the (Speaker?) was slightly melted not sure what it was it looked like a speaker ..probably the thing that makes the squealing sound when you forget to connect the two 6 pin connections..

Also now the monitor will not respond at all when I turn the computer on.. this could be something else because I have had this problem before when taking out the card.. it is put in properly but sometimes the monitor just would not respond to the card. But it is highly likely that it was because I put it in the oven though haha.

I would not tell anyone to not try this because I have read so many peoples responses to this trick on other forums/youtube videos so it probably does work, I guess I just got unlucky.

Anyway everything arrived for my new PC two days later all I need now is the SSD and windows 7 and I can get it up and running. I will probably go and buy a cheap card so I can still use this computer seeing as everything else still works and I want to use it as a media center.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you, but again, it's kinda like trying the hail mary pass from your own 14 yrd line in the last 20 seconds of the game..... game saver if it works, but you're no further behind if it doesn't.

I'm happy to report that my GTX 280 is still happily folding.

Thanks, I probably should have looked into it a bit more than I did. I probably did something wrong because I did not look up the detail specific guide on what to do.. also no one else reported melting so I am thinking my old oven was a little too hot, I know the timing was perfect though.

Oh well all the more reason to hurry up and get my new rig running :)

I had some minor "meltage" as well. There's a plastic light conduit that runs from the card to the backplate to pass the "powered on" led light to the backplate.... that didn't survive the baking well..... ;)
