My System Specs

Default Windows 7 Fails to boot with USB Controller Enabled in bios!!!

OK, Brand new rig. MSI Board and GPU. 890FXA-GD70 is my mobo and I have an issue.

MSI's forum and tech support is a load of crap. Sorry if I am breaking any forum rules here but I am greatly dissapointed with the help.

Anyways,

Windows 7 will ALWAYS hang on the "Starting Windows" black screen with the USB controller enabled. Even with USB devices unplugged I still need to disable the USB Controller.

Using a PS/2 keyboard I was able to install windows 7 without issue with the USB Controller disabled.
(Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)

Now it hangs on the same screen before the OS can boot into windows. Samething, only works with the USB controller off. I even managed to update the bios to V1.4 but that had no effect.

I'm counting on the good people of hardware canucks to be smarter then MSI peoples!!!

I had a similar issue with a X58 Gigabyte board; I had to disable the Legacy USB controller.

I'd also try disabling "boot from other device" just to see if that's the issue.

Did you try removing the connectors on the motherboard for the case plugs? Might be a short.

I had this issue, it turned out to be old hardware making windows 7 unable to boot. The old hardware for me was a wireless g PCI card, are you running any older hardware 'accessories' in the board?

Same here with P55 GA and Asus board. The asus have the exact same problem, disabling USB in bios make it work like it should ( USB legacy for sure ) And the GA was my actual UD5 really not loving a old USB HDD that make it hang up. It's looking like windows 7 have problem with some old legacy driver.

The big question is are your USB still working in windows, normally they should. If now you can use your computer well then...that's why the community exist

Tried USB Legacy, did not helped.

Turns out I can get it to work with only one stick of memory in the first DIMM. However I'm not sure how this will solve my problem if I can't get all four sticks to work with Windows 7.

Is this OC'd at all? If it works with just one memory stick, sounds to me like it might be a Vdimm or NB V issue. Try bumping those up a notch.

I'm going to try wiping the drive and clearing the bios once more with One stick of mem. If this fails then I'm going to attempted to get in touch with MSI directly.
I will raise hell if I have too...
