Default 67C on GPU. 35C on CPU @ Idle

Heya,

I'm running an i7 920 with 9800GTX+s in SLi. Even before I went to SLi, my video card used to stay at this temperature. Using rivatuner, I find that the main card always stays at its OC'd frequency (790/1200, a light one) while my secondary card runs on lower frequencies to keep temps + power consumption low.

This said, is this a normal figure? I would have thought my GPU would be running a lot cooler without a load. I don't know why it's running at such high frequencies if I'm not gaming. Under load, my video card doesn't pass 75C.

It sounds to me like you're saying your primary 9800GTX is constantly at it's max clock speed, rather than downclocking itself while not in 3D mode. In other words, it's constantly at 'load.'

My System Specs

Default

I don't have much experince OCing NV cards, but with ATI I believe the clocks stay at the highest settings when OCd. To ensure that Powerplay (clock scaling during lower usage) was enabled I had to hard code the clocks into the powerplay section of the video BIOS using the Radeon BIOS Editor. Perhaps you have to do something similar?
