My System Specs

Default Screeches and Crashes

Hey HWC,

My Computer:
AMD Phenom II 720BE
OCZ Vendetta Cooler
Gigabyte 770T UD3P
2 GB Corsair DDR3-1333 RAM w/ Ramsinks (like the Dominator ones)
XFX 9600GT 512MB
Seagate 7200.12 500GB
Seasonic S12 650W PSU
Pioneer 216 DVD Drive (SATA version)
Azza Helio 910B

Problems:
When I go on R.U.S.E open beta, Company of Heroes Online, America's Army 3, there may be more but these are the ones I play the most. My computer crashes with a screeching noise if you turn on the speakers. The problem is that I have switched out all the parts except for the mother board, power supply, and all the other components are either tested and had no error or I switched it out and there where not problems with it.

Please Help!

Sounds like a power coil on the motherboard or power supply. I would wager the power supply is the culprit.

But there is NO screeching sound when the speakers are off. There are only the screeching sound when the speakers are on.

The computer would hang on start up too.

What does the power coil do?

Thanks

didnt say under what OS using (W7rc is time bombed)

seems also can be software NOTE Gigabyte 770T UD3P has two Versions 1.0 and 1.1 MAKE SURE you know what one you have by looking on the MB.

other is qualified memory.pdf for 2gb stick TR3X6G1866C9D 1gb stick CM3X1024-1800C7D

this noise only happens when playing a game or is constant

Inductor coils are a rare but an issue with some boards if they are not properly insulated. If you look on most electronic devices, they will have various sizes of copper wound material - the purpose is to either delay or reshape alternating current. I had this issue on an old DFI board. What I did to minimize the problem was to remove any instances of power saving options in the motherbord bios as well as setting all my voltages manually instead of AUTO. For example, my P6T and my previous Asus Extreme AUTO settings were way to high - solved by bios releases by the manufacturer.

These problems can come from your power supply as well. Best thing to do is make sure you have the latest bios, set voltages to default settings - not overclocked...one stick of RAM and no other peripherals to reduce your power load and give it a try.

ALSO - Check all your connections!

Pull the powersupply out of the case and give it a try. Remember, on board sound can easily magnify a pre-existing problem on the board.

ALSO - Check with a set of headphones to make sure it's not the speakers or wire ( Highly doubt it but you should anyway )

Make sure you temps are under control under load using Giga-bytes temp utility or HWmonitor. Nothing loads a board more then playing a game and therefore loading your inductors or other components.

Let us know.

Cheers.

so if you turn your speakers on at any given time, the computer will crash with a screeching sound?

is this repeatable with other speakers / 'phones?

When the computer crashes (black screens), if i turn on the speakers, the speakers will emit a screeching noise.

@ Mark

Everything is at default in BIOS except Cool N' Quiet

Temps in game (TF2) is 30*. This is with the OCZ Vendetta and room temp is like ~15*.
(i think the temperature sensor is defective, but i'm not sure)
In HWMonitor, my TMPIN2 is like 80* constant

I would still look at PSU first...

I'm local to you if you need a tester PSU....

If your confident that your temps are under control and the voltage settings are appropriate then do the remaining diagnostics:

Remove the power-supply and try another if possible. Once you are certain it's not the power-supply then try with headphones. If the headphones transmits the same problem then you know for certain it's the motherboard. Now before ruling a defective motherboard, check that there is no short from the board to the case and there is nothing causing a short. Removing the motherboard and trying it on an antistatic bag would be ideal.

I assume that you have the latest drivers and the OS is in pristine shape of coarse.

Conclusion after wards would be a defective board IMO.
