SATA to IDE.... Normally I would just brush this idea off my shoulder. Converters normally have a performance problem and sometimes it's silly to have them. However I can't over look it unless I know all the details. To be blunt, I want to use the SATA connections from my board and convert them to IDE on my two Optical drives. I have my reasons why I would want to do this but thats not the point. I found this one but it only seems to work from the IDE on the board and make up 2 SATA connections... doesn't seem to work the other way around. StarTech.com - IDE to SATA Drive Motherboard Adapter this one too A-SATA-IDE: IDE Converter to SATA I also read this article but who knows when it was made. Warning about IDE to SATA Devices Anyone know of anything new that can hook into the back of my optical drives and work for me with out errors? |

SATA to IDE converters are utter crap. |
why not get SATA optical drives? you can get em for about 35$(DVD burners) |
Yea I thought about new drives. However if you looked at my worklog you will noticed I designed my case for the optical drives I already have. bit of a design flaw but oh well. As far as I'm concerned, as long as it's not my HDD then it shouldn't be to much of an issue. Besides... you can buy newer models off ebay for $3 US... So in the end if it turns out to be crap then I haven;t lost a whole lot and I can still grab a longer IDE which would have a chance of performance issues. This converter is supposed to work perfectly without issues from the bios and it does allow 1.5gbs. At least from what I have read. extra power plug on them as well to give additional signal boost. |
The SATA to IDE connectors are garbage because they are flimsy and not very sturdy and cost like $25 so for another $10 you got a optical drive. |

that is a problem I can fix... aslong as it does it's job I'm happy. |
That adapter you linked looks pretty handy. It could come in handy as a tool in a pc repair kit. Let us know how it works out, I might get a few for the shop. |
