I'm saying that after a fresh install they claim that within a couple months their computer has "slowed down" so they decided to format again. Why not just run everything in a VM if that's the case?

First time might take me a while, but I've learned something and consequent infections/problems/whatever of the same thing don't take me very long to deal with

I always format. I cant be bothered trying to fix OS issues or trying to figure out how to get rid of a virus. I can be up and running in 20 minutes when I install from a USB stick.

Yeah if you were ocing daily like some people your OS would be shot by now. It depends what you are doing with it.
