Looking to borrow an FX-70, FX-72 or FX-74
Does anybody have an AMD FX-70 or FX-72 or FX-74?
I'm thinking about buying one of these: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. ...And then flashing the BIOS to one of these: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. ...So that I could run it with a pair of Opteron 23**-series quad cores.
Problem is, that in order to do the BIOS flash, I need one of the CPUs that the board is originally compatible with with the stock BIOS, which are limited to the three I mentioned. Seriously, who would make a mobo with a CPU compatibility list that is precisely three entries deep? Anyway, that's neither here nor there...
So my question is - does anybody have an AMD FX-70, FX-72 or FX-74 that I could borrow just for a few moments so I can flash the BIOS on the board? I am prepared to compensate you in an appropriate manner for your act of Good Samaritanism.
I don't, but I thought I'd let you know those links do not work.
Weird - they work for me. Thanks for letting me know!
So the board I'd like to buy is an ASUS L1N64-SLI WS (Newegg.com - ASUS L1N64-SLI WS Dual L(1207FX) NVIDIA nForce 680a SLI MCP SSI CEB AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards).
The board I'd like to turn it into is an ASUS L1N64-SLI WS/B (Newegg.com - ASUS L1N64-SLI WS/B Dual 1207(F) NVIDIA nForce 680a SLI SSI CEB Dual AMD Opteron Server Motherboard - Server Motherboards).
Hopefully those links work.
Yep all the links you posted work for me.
Woah.. what could you use a motherboard like that for?
But in all seriousness wish i did because i'd lend it to you, all i can offer is a free thread bump
Edit: AMD Athlon 64 FX FX-70 2.6 GHz Processor cpu on eBay.ca (item 150398466886 end time 15-Feb-10 02:25:25 EST)
Yup - it's hard to find multi-socket boards that can overclock. Thanks for the link Meta, but I would prefer to not have to buy a $140 CPU just for 90 seconds of use.
Or, why not just get the L1N64-SLI/B right away? If you can find it that is.
Let me call a buddy. I know a few months back we were digging thru his old computer junk, and I noted he had his old FX-70 rig still rotting away. He has since moved on to a Q9550 setup. Maybe I can 'borrow' the rig off him.
I'll get back to you.
Thanks man, that would be awesome - I'm knocking on wood right now. :thumb:
