Random Freezing and Black Screens

Hey HWC,

My bro's computer has been acting funky for the late while. While playing games, it would black screen and crash. I've tested the 720BE with Orthos for 2 hours, 8800GS with OCCT Linpack and Memtest.

So what could be wrong?

check your directx drivers and hardware the video card if nvidia use 180 driver for the new one 195 is problems i hear
other thing, malware is present run a AV AM AH program

Is there any specific game that he play making crash or it's random in any game?

Its random in any game, except the NES emulator...

have you tested the ram?

I'd focus on overheating vid card first.... do you have the ability to manually set the fan to 100% to see if that makes the issue go away?

RivaTuner will give you the ability to set the fan speeds to 100% Sswilson's idea seems worth a try.

I cannot manually set the fan speed coz the cooler is plugged into the motherboard. His video card is a 8800GS w/ GFXChilla. I tried furmark on it and it loads at ~55*. But the black screening only happens in games.
