Default Over Tightened Fittings = Leaks?

Is it possible that a leak can be caused by over tightened fittings?

Asked my dad and he said the same thing. Told me just now to go "hand tight plus a quarter more with wrench, but no more than a quarter"

That's what I do. Don't forget to put a cloth over the fitting before using pliers or you'll mark up the finish.

Definitly use the cloth. I'm pretty sure I got this taken care of
