GA-P35-DS3L & E6750 - BIOS help needed!!!

Hi Folks,

I just put together a new rig, which includes a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L and an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750. My problem is that I'm not too familiar with all the technicalities of a motherboard's BIOS. I was having problems like the CPU fan cutting out and the like so I updated to the newest BIOS, which fixed that problem. I went in to the BIOS and changed the bus speed to 333 MHz and the multiplier to 8x. However, when I take a look using CPU-Z I see that I get my 1333 MHz FSB, but the multiplier is just 6x, not 8x (which gives me a CPU speed of 2 GHz, not 2.67 GHz). It's like the new settings don't want to stick. Maybe something else in the BIOS is overriding my wishes.

Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. I bought this board and CPU in order to get into overclocking. So far I'm not having alot of fun. Anyone who can help or has the same motherboard would be a welcome sight.

Your CPU is scaling back because you don't have a load on it....

If the bios is similar on yours as it is with the P35-DQ6 then here's where you need to go......

In bios....

Under the PC health status....

• Disable smart fan control method

Under the advanced bios features....

• CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) - Disabled
• CPU thermal monitor - disabled
• CPU EIST Function - Disabled

Keep in mind that disabling these settings will put your CPU's health at risk if you don't properly monitor temps.

yep ... as sswilson says ... for oc'ing turn off all the cpu energy saving features.

ds3l setting are the same in these areas as dq6 which i dont have , and 965-ds3, g33m-ds2r, and p35-ds3l, and p35-ds3r which i do have.

Also, in case you haven't discovered it yet ... to get all the advanced settings including memory timings, you need to hit ctrl-f1 when you first enter bios on the gigabyte rigs.

If you have a half decent after market HSF on the cpu you should be hitting 3 + ghz pretty easily ... and you can prolly get there on a stock hsf if your cpu doesn't need a lot of volts.
