Lima, I am actually at work and I am working on a machine with a WD 320AAKS and a Vista home premium 64 bit. in the bios the drive is well set has a 320AAKS. IMO I think that your board disk controller is in trouble because in bios vista have nothing to do with the name of your disk. Don't blame the OS for that problem it's an issue sitting before windows get's in;) What is your MOBO??? don't tell me A8N series or asus X48 series or I will laught:)

Guys, now that I think of it, there is no point of doing a BIOS flash. I had done that the first time this had happened and the BIOS has not changed since. After I put the controler in IDE mode, the disk was being reported as bzbzbzbzbzbz again. But after a CMOS clear, the disk was being picked up correctly again. I don't think this problem has to do with the HDD's. Darn, it seems the controler might be the culprit.

The board is a DFI LP LT X48 T2R.

I think you found it. X48 chipset have many ghost problem wich are really hard to find. Asus are to worst for that with board like P5E and DLX. Don`t really worry about the disk is seen as a zbzbbzbzbzbzbz.

Jeez! Still waiting for DFI tech support to get back to me on the subject. Sent them two messages. I am probably gonna try the DFI Club site as well now.

I also tried the defective drive on the JMicron controler and it errored out there too.

Also, since I had another one of those disks left, I took it out, replaced the one beeing picked up wrong, and have not ran into a problem yet. I have completely installed Vista, updated it, and have installed almost all of the apps I use. This is good news.

Well, if things keep going well, with this new drive, I can conclude that I received two defective drives out of the five I bought and, I will have to RAM them.

I am glad things are looking better for my mobo.


*Update: I ended up sending the board in for a RMA. The board was defective and they sent me a replacement. Everything was perfect after
