My System Specs

Default New build woes

Hey guys,

I finally decided to make an account after trolling here for quite some time now.

I put together my new system the other day and a couple problems have come up.

e8400
Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
XFX HD 4890 XXX
OCZ Platinum 2x2gb ddr2-1066mhz
Corsair tx750
WD Caviar green 750gb

Anyways...

Even though the comp post's properly, it doesnt make the post beep... When i was putting all the hdd indicator lights and front panel wires there were pins for "speaker" but i didnt see any in the case.

Also, when i first started up the computer, the processor was set to run at like 2.6 or so rather than the factory 3.0ghz. My core voltage also reads .992v which if im not mistaken is completely too low

If anybody has any insight or can lend into helping out that'd be sweet

Thanks

Probably no speaker in the case you got.... that's not too uncommon. If you live nearby and really want one I can get you one. Heh.

I would try a bios update first but I think an e8400 would be pretty easily recognised by most BIOSes for some time now.

Actually, something's definitely not right here.

When i go into bios and "load optimized settings" (333FSB x 9xmulti) it boots fine at 3.0ghz but after a short while drops down to 2.0ghz (333FSB x 6xmulti with .992v vcore)

Whats causing my proc to drop? I havent changed any settings in bios...

Yeah, it would be in the case, the wire leads bunched up with the rest of them.

Your new explaination of what happened explained a lot.

I still have speedstep enabled, not that it matters, I don't think my cpu ever sees any less than 98% usage on all cores due to folding@home

ill dig into one of my old cases in my garage and salvage a speaker for my Antec

is it normal to hit 68c on my e8400 at 3.4ghz running prime95? i thought it was a bit high and decided to terminate the test before something went wrong

If you're running a stock cooler that's definately within normal specs.

Bah, damn intel cooler isnt worth the trouble. Intel should seriously think of shipping just the chipset for cheaper to avoid all the paper-weights they currently ship out. Now im trying to debate which to go with... I can go and pick up a Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 for 20 bones or I can wait and go for the kahuna TRUE 120. Or, I can snag a Xigmatek.

I think ill hold out for the TRUE
