Default Vista Compatibility

Forgive a "noob" question please.

I have had a new PC, and it came with Vista. My old PC was using WXP.

I have tried to get my Dell A940 all-in-one to run on Vista. (got all the latest drivers etc) It will print OK, but will not scan or do anything else that it did on WXP.

Is it time for a new Printer, or does anyone know of a way to make the old Dell printer work with Vista?

Thank you in anticipation of any help you may give me.:help:

Bullterrier.

PS. I am a total non-techie concerning computers:help:

USB printers and Vista do not cooperatee very well. You can probably get the scanner to work with some aftermarket software, just not Dell software. I have the same issue with my HP printer. The real problem is that the people that made our printers do not care enough to give us software that works under VIsta since they would prefer we just bought new printers with full Vista support already.

Looks really old...

Just buy a new printer, even the cheapest thing on the market is probably better.

Another option is to find out what company manufactured the printer. Then you can download the software from the manufacturer's website eg lexmark, epson, hp, etc. (if there is vista support for it)

this seems like the first logical step

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. It was much appreciated.

I gave up trying to get the Dell A940 working in Vista, and have bought a Canon Pixma 210. It has installed without a hitch and is running fine.
Would you believe that I put in a bid for it of 20.00 on eBay, and got it for 10.00 plus 10.00 postage?..and it is brand new!

Thanks once again guys...it is nice to have someone to ask these questions to
