few weird problems with my new pc

1. I can't get to the boot menu. After i pressed F12, a tiny white box flashed in the top left corner (loading?). I waited for 20 mins, but still loading.

2. I was trying to set my DDR2-1066 (4x2gb)rams to run at 800mhz 4-4-4-15 1.8v using BIOS (because I dont want the rams to run too hot). But they show up 400mhz on CPU-Z, AMD overdrive, and other tools.

3. Don't know why, but my pc suddenly shut down once (fans still running though).

4. My cpu is 40c idle and 60+c load. Im using stock heat sink and, I removed the HS 3 times without applying new thermal compond. Should I get a new heatsink?

5. Sapphire 4870 1gb 48C idle normal?

1X - every time you remove it and put it back on, without completely removing the old tim and applying new tim, you create a lot of air pockets. Those air pockets interfere with the thermal transfer between your CPU and your heat sink.

1. Trying resetting your CMOS and then getting into the BIOS. Sounds like your system may be hanging on a sata controller/ network boot before getting into the BIOS menu.

2. 400Mhz is normal for CPUz to report, but DDR (Double Date Rate) by definition it twice that reported speed. Therefore is CPUz says 400mhz then youre running at 800mhz.

3. See My answer to #1. Could be a misbehaving BIOS or overheating as a result of #4.

4. Always reapply thermal paste when reseating a CPU cooler.

5. That's pretty much normal for a 4870. If you'd like to lower the temperature a bit more, I'd suggest going into the Catalyst Control Center in the Overdrive section to adjust the fan speed or use Rivatuner to do the same.
