What about disabling Apps from Start-up in msconfig...its one of the first things I do?

Use Codestuff Starter, it's free, graphical interface, and doesn't give you the annoying warning boxes.

Yup!

Using msconfig is no longer needed nor recommended.

I use mcsonfig to configure my "startup" to get rid of things like windows live messenger, steam, and that adobe crap... never failed me yet... but use services.msc to change services... I don't see the harm in taking away useless apps from your startup?

Thanks SugarJ for that multi core start thing, I just did it in XP... cut maybe a few secods off anyways.. nothing drastic, but anything helps.

My jv 16 Power Tools has this start manager of sorts to
Well jv's version of it

You can select different viewing options even to see all the little stuff to and disable the items.

but I have a computer here that has a couple items unticked in startup in vista with no issues.

Its set to selective startup as well

I mean if the app has the option within it, to untick loading at start, in the lower right hand tray, I would use it but adobe and nero I don't think do.

I always thougth those startup apps pretty interfaces were just accessing the normal windows one with dressing added?
