I'm running a BFG GTX 280 - stock clock

Same problem happens if I want to game in XP or Win7

I RMA'd the card once last fall because of a similar problem

Let the card cool down and see if it does it after.

Might want to watch the temps on it to see if it might be overheating.

only 62 degree when it crashed. Once I got the first crash, I sat down and wait a bit to let the GPU cool down, and the same thing happened after

What are you using to monitor temps?

Ensure Card is properly seated and 6 Pin / 8 Pin power connectors seated, I know I know...but try re-seating them, do a clean "uninstall" of vodeo Drivers utilizing "Driver Cleaner" and reinstall Video Drivers.
If it continues, try the Card out in another Rig...seems odd it has happened twice now......I would also suspect Mobo PCI-E slot, can you try it in a different PCI-e Slot?
Also, would suspect PSU, if you have another PSU kicking around try it out.
I know its brutal, I do sympathize with you as trying to determine what it is can be an exercise in "detective" work, in summary:
1. Rule out Drivers
2. Rule out GPU (by trying in another rig)
3. Rule out Mobo (try in another PCI-e Slot or try another GPU)
4. Rule out PSU

Yeah I had something similar happen, but only when I turned on SLI, turned out re-seating my bottom GPU fixed it!
