These are at res. 1280 X 1024 no AA or anything special just optimal settings.
There is no way your X600 was getting even half of those scores.... :)

Your cpu score is low, and it is holding you back a bit, but that's to be expected.

What issues are you having with performance?

My x600 never ran with 3d mark. I just ran games. I used to run games at 1024 X 768 high detail with like 40 fps. Now I run at 1280 X 1024. I lag on high settings in most games.

Basically. I just lag. FPS lag... If you have played Half-Life 2. When you start a new games and get off the train. You go outside. you get to see the almighty Source engine... I dip to 34 FPs while outside on 1280X1024 on high graphics... do you expect that form my set up... I don't... Maybe now with the processors but the GFX card... no way. The reason I bought it was not to lag. Benchmarks for this Card run the game at a lot higher resolutions at high graphics and have alot higher FPS Minimum.

I lag on basically all games on higher graphics.

BTW, My x600 runs Counter-Strike: Source at 1024 X 768 on highn with around 50 - 70 FPS. Most levels...

The highest score I see on Futuremark's Online Results Browser for an X600 is 508 ...

I don't have any experience with that particular board, but I just had a quick look at the manual and it does look like it's got the settings to OC with, as long as it can perform. Just don't forget that you're going to need DDR2 to go with it. :)

I'd spend some google time looking for that motherboard though.... the fact that they've got limitations on returns for that combo makes me wonder if there isn't some reason they're trying to dump them.

I think just about any chip you run is going to be the bottleneck in a system with that card, so you want to make sure you can squeeze as much as possible out of it.

Is there a reason why you're looking at an AM2 setup vice a C2D?

You could probably put together a decent Intel cpu/motherboard combo for around the same price, and if your main goal is performance enhancement the C2D line is currently king.

Do I think you should ? No ...

If you're going to upgrade, go Core 2 Duo ... AM2 just doesn't compete very well except at the lower-end of the spectrum, which you're already at ...

Basically anything lower than an AMD FX-60/6000+ or Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 is going to be a noticeable bottleneck on the 8800 GTS for most applications, though, unless you run ridiculously high resolutions (1920x1080 or higher) ...

Try turning the Texture filtering down to bilinear -- don't use Anisotophic Filtering if you're running into performance problems- also try 2X AntiAliasing instead of 4

remove the 2*512mb and only stand to the 2x 1gb sticks, check if it make difference

mixing 2 x 1gb stick with 2 x 512 mb stick isnt realy a good thing

thats porobaly why your ram is working @ 333mhz like you post here earlier

But that 3800+ is definetly bottlenecking that 8800 card

Ok, well. Finaly back. I looked into an intel setup and was quite impressed. For about $500 I can get an XFX 650I Motherboard, Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, Corsair XMS2 Twin 2 x 1024 PC2-6400. Looks like it kicks AM2's ass. For quite a bit cheaper. Including S&H, tax. The bad stuff... I also added an Antec Nine Hundred case, just to make it look better :) Plus the cooling is great..

Thanks for help. I'm pretty sure it should work out.

In real life use, FORGET STUPID SYNTHETIC BENCHMARKS, the AMD64 X2 does NOT bottleneck the 8800GTS. Anyone that says that and bases it solely on 3D Mark scores should really rethink how they rate hardware. What WILL bottleneck that card with the X2 is running a low resolution under 1280X1024. Then, almost ANY CPU would bottleneck. If you have the 8800 and don't run atleast 1280X1024, you will never, with ANY CPU, ease the bottleneck.

OI am sorry for sounding harsh, but the constant drivel about C2D is just annoying. of course it is faster and outbenchmarks the AM2 by a good amount. BUT, in real life use which cannot be measured with synthetic benchmarks, the difference is unnoticeable. I have owned 3 C2D systems and I am on my 2nd AM2. In games and every other real world everyday task I see next to no difference from my Conroes @ 3.2GHz compared to my AM2 @ 3.2GHz. My benchmark scores are sure different, but as I said, in REAL WORLD use there is little to no difference.

3D Mark and every other synthetic benchmark is useless to tell you how your PC will game. There are a few actual game benchmarks out there that can tell you a helluva lot more about your performance. Try the HL2 benchmarks for one. Also remember. It's all about the minimum FPS, not the maximum. It does not matter if your PC can do a max of 200FPS+ if the minimums drop below 30FPS. My PC plays everything on high settings or higher and never drops below 30FPS in ANY game @ 1680X1050 resloution with AA and AF cranked. That is at 2.88GHz as well. So anyone stating the X2 is the bottleneck is wrong. Period.
