CPU Fan speed change?

Greetings,

When I first got my computer, my Vendetta 2 was running at 1500 RPM. I also how a case fan that was usually in that range. A few days ago, I brought it to the store for them to install 2 quieter case fans.

I'm using CPUID to monitor temps and fan speed. Since I brought it back, my CPU fan - the Vendetta 2 - is only running at 900RPM?

Is this something I can set again? Why the cut in speed? My temps are also hotter...although still under 50.

the new fans run quieter because they don't run as fast. I seem to recall my older rig having that happen too.

Well the problem is the CPU fan (Vendetta 2). The case fans are running at the same speed as the old ones - with about 75% less noise! I have two Vantec 90mm (one front one back). Might get 2 more in there.

Any thoughts about the CPU fan?

Did they change out your Vendetta Fan or just your Case Fans? Check your CPU Fan Speed control settings in your BIOS, maybe they changed them...

well, having the Vendetta II myself, the fan is only secondary. the heatsink by itself is doing most of the work. 900rpm sounds accurate.

tell me, are you getting your temp readings from RealTemp?

as well, maybe when they put the new fan on the Vendetta II, they reattatched it to the cpu incorrectly and it's not making proper mechanical contact.

Check your CPU Fan settings in the BIOS....then go from thier...

They didn't do anything to the Vendetta 2 fan, just the case fans. In fact, I was watching when they did it. They plugged the fans in the PSU, and then that little yellow cable into the fan chan 1 and 2 on the MOBO (I think this is what regulates the case fan speeds? the old fan only had that, no plug into CPU...).

I'll take a look in the BIOS tomorrow morning. My concern is that now I have an extra fan yet my temps are higher than before. With the one case fan and the Vendetta 2 I was getting temps maxing out at 45 when running Prime95. Now I'm hitting 50.

Sounds like your old Fans were not plugged into your Board...in your BIOS you should be able to Max the speed of those Case Fans now, that should help.

Now I'm really confused...

Installed speed fan and took a look at things:

It's listing TWO CPU fans, and ONE case fan???

CPU0 Fan
CPU1 Fan
Sys Fan

Is it possible they plugged the CPU fan in the wrong slot?
