Default "display driver has stopped working"

Hi guys.
I have been experiencing the same problem for a very long time ever since I had my computer and some people I know also have the same problem and I have gone to thinking that it wasn't neccessarily a "problem" but it was just normal and occasionally happened. But its starting to really get on my nerves now. When I play a full screen game, SOMETIMES it will all of a sudden freeze, then the screen will go black, then it will go back to the game, and like 15 seconds it will do the same thing over and over again. This only happens sometimes and when I restart my computer it is alright. But its so random and I do not know what it is or what to do about it. I have an 8800gtx for a video card and I have the latest drivers...
Any suggestions?

When's the last time you cleaned the dust out of the thing? Could be gettin' hot. How are your temps?

Yep, sounds like temps to me as well.

If cleaning it up doesn't do anything for you, try pegging the fanspeed to 100% manually with riva tuner just to see if the problem goes away.
