Default Video card issues......advice needed please.

Was hoping that you folks could take a peek at these screenshots and possibly confirm that my video card is dying. Card is a Sapphire X1950pro. I don't believe that it is heat related and it has happened in different games.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You might try newer video card drivers, but my guess would be: Yes, your video card is on it's way out. I recall very similar artifacting happening when my 9800pro over heated (just before it died). Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

Yeah, try new video card drivers before anything. If that solves it, perfect!

Is that the 1950pro?

If so, you can also try bumping up the fan speed with riva tuner to see if that does the trick. If it does, then it's not necessarily completely fubar'd.

Yea,
The 1950Pro I had was overheating too.
But it this particular case, I don't think it's caused by overheating...

I have stuff like this happening in COD4 with my 8800GTS 640(only when using the shotgun ,that's weird)...I can upgrade drivers all I want, doesn't solve the issue. Seems to be the game maybe? I mean can you try to copy/keep your WoW profile and re-install your game???

Just my 2 cents...

running a x1950XT video card and that dman card refuse to die whatever voltage i put on it ...

i'haven't seen this card doing artefacts using reasonable clock has long has temp stay quite low ....

does you'r video card is factory overclocked? maybe setting the fan speed to 100% using riva tuner could help ....

Wow is updated with latest patches?

COD is updated with latest patches?

When you install drivers to do you use driver sweeper or driver cleaner prior to installing new drivers?

It also could be video card specific, had simliar issues with my 7600GT when textures didn't load correctly.

Regards,

EE

Looking at those two pictures it does NOT look like videocard failure ! Nor does it look like artifacting caused by overheating either - looks like texture corruption, can be caused by driver/compatibility/game issues or another common cause bad RAM - I would place my bets on BAD RAM - If you are overclocking anything try setting everything to stock speeds and check again, otherwise update the latest drivers and try running other games or graphic intense applications/games. I've seen the exact same type of effect with bad RAM - You might want to check your system RAM (memtest86) ! and if your RAM is ok then driver or game issue - rule out card problems by trying other games, running GPU intensive applications, etc. but it does not look like card dying to me ! :)

I replaced my 1950 this past summer, but I did at one point have some over heating issues. I pulled it apart, and cleaned and replaced the tim with mx-2, cleaned the fan/heatsink, and never had a problem again. Something to look into if you run out of software related fixes. :)

First off....thanks tons for all the responses.

The drivers are the current version 9.1 but I must admit that I don't have the catalyst suite installed, just the display driver.

Neither the vid card nor the comp are overclocked. Everything is just stock. Game are updated with the most current patches etc. I have my system in a CoolerMaster 690 case so it seems to be getting good airflow. The fan and card are free of dust as well.

I first saw the issue arise while playing Cabela's Trophy Hunter 2008. I got out of the game, logged back in and the same issue. I then downloaded the current driver at that time which I believe was the update before the most current one. So it also does it in other games and not just Warcraft. Sometimes it could happen right away, while other times I could play for a couple of days before I see it.

sswilson: yeah that is the 1950pro. :o)

In regards to the Riva Tuner. What should I set the fan speed to? Do I just lock it at 100% before logging into the game to play?

I also tried running ATITool and had it scan for artifacts. It beeped a couple of times and the timer reset. Not sure if it records errors but it dodn't come up and say I had any so not sure if I am using that program effectively.

Should I be trying 3Dmark06 or something to test it?
