Try installing with a single ram stick, and a single GPU.

Definitely only try installing with 1GB of RAM... filling all DIMMs will cause a ton of problems during installation...

I thought I had a problem loading Vista on my PC recently. Keep trying but seemed it was hanging up. Then one time I started again and got distracted. Forgot about it for awhile. When I came back about 40 mins later it was being installed. Guess the 5-10 min I was waiting the previous attempts just was not enough. It was actually working in the background and I thought the disk was damaged as it seemed it was hanging or frozen.

Stick in the disk and do the initial start, when it seems its hung up. Walk away for an hour. May work for you too.

Vista is really slow allot slower then any other OS I have installed.
As for the problem at hand I agree with what everyone else has said about the Ram sticks. because it sounds to me like a Hardware issue could even be something not totally seated .
