Motherboard dead?

I turned off my pc last night, and put in a 500gb harddrive, and then i turned my pc back on, and it won't boot. It gets stuck on the first screen where it says" Asus p5e.. press del to enter setup" And its got the asus logo on it. It just freezes on that. I cleared the cmos, and it is still doing it.

What happens when you take out the drive?

Unplug all devices.

Any usb, sata cables, ide cables, floppy cables.. everything

You only want your keyboard plugged in.

Did you go through the "no post" checklist? From your symptoms it could be just about anything from memory on down to PSU. (Quick check though... try reseating all of your PSU connections first... could be something got dislodged during the install of the new HDD).

Ok, well i un plugged everything, and it made it to the bios, but it took a long time, about a minute. I plugged my drives in, and now there is a noise coming from what sounds to be the southbridge.. And, windows won't boot. It gets a BSOD, but it lasts about a half a second, so i can't figure out which one it is..

Only plug one thing in at a time to double check.

When the system acts up you know its that one.

er, by drives, i meant my 2 g.skill ssd's, which are in raid0, then i plugged in my vista drive, and it did the same thing..
