Default random 4-6 second crackle in audio?

Hey, I just built a new rig:

Asus p5q3 deluxe wifi motherboard
intel xeon e3110 chip
xp sp3 32 bit
2 gigs of 1333mhz ram (patriot viper)
HD4850 Gfx card
Ask if you need any more info...

Randomly when listening to music or watching a movie. It happens whether I am using winamp or WMP, it doesnt change based on music player. It also happens in games.

I will be listening, one song can have no crackle, and then at a point in the next song there it will show up. It sounds like a clicking, or scratching (half a second long), or almost like a skipping, or a crackle, always at the same tempo, about once a second, for usually about 3-6 seconds at a time (make a really short 'ch' sound several times, it sounds like that). I unpluged my speakers and repluged them back in, I took them out one at a time and put them in to test it, Im almost certain its either a driver or onboard problem. My speakers (5.1) were in my old rig, no problems.

This is starting to get frustrating, because I always hear the crackle when it happens (because it is random) and it distracts me from the music or movie.

Thanks for the help,
Dan

p.s. drivers are up to date

Yeah, turns out the problem is back, weirdly after doing a little bit of overclocking and voltage settings.

Any ideas?

My only thought would be, you are having some kind of EM Interferance happening somewhere. Which, in turn can be a pain in the butt to source out and solve.

My thoughts at least,

Yea I had the same problem, with a different sound card. I had been using the shitty onboard card for almost a year, and then got a Soundblaster. Like 5 or 6 seconds after boot, a constant hum would start. I then remembered reading somewhere that you are supposed to put your soundcard on the furthest slot from your power supply, so it is furthest from the biggest source of EMI in your case. The problem was that my power supply is mounted at the bottom of my case, so there was no further slots available. So I started thinking, and thought of a Red Green solution. I took a hard drive anti static bag, and put it on top of my power supply, in theory creating an impenetrable wall of anti static absorbing goodness. AND IT WORKED! No more humming.

Man I am genius
