Then the mystic orbs say you should try with a different PSU.

Also, forgot to mention, when i said that the fans wouldn't start up, i was including the PSU fan as well. Wouldn't that be indicative of a PSU problem?

Hehe, well i'm happy it's not looking like a fried motherboard.

I don't get it though, it was working fine, and it's not like i'm OC'd and pushing that PSU to the limit, it's friggin 800w!

Anyway, i only have another HP in the house and i have no idea how that PSU would handle my rig and i'm a bit afraid to open up a OEM machine. Guess i'll have to try it anyway. Is that safe?

And at this point from what i've told you guys, is it definitively a psu problem or could it be other things?

I really appreciate yours, Supergrover's and Cmetaphor's advice.

No offense to your system, but an 800w power supply doesn't mean that much. It's just a rating (which more and more manufacturers exaggerate to some extent). The Make of the PSU is what's really important. When you buy a replacement, I'd suggest a Corsair or PC Power & Cooling power supply as they are the best price/quality you can get now. As for using your HP PSU on your system.... I wouldn't advise it

Which one is it?... A new would replaced under warranty would be a low-cost solution (obviously) but if the quality is bad there's nothing that will prevent this from happening again.

how old exactly? OCZ power supplies Before their purchase of PC P&C weren't that amazing in my opinion. Then again, it could be you do have a newer one and ust got a lemon. Try the warranty replacement in that case.
