Here's a thought. Why don't you just leave it the hell alone? I've never seen a place so moderated as this one. It's the internet for god sakes. So what if 2 jackholes want to call each other names over amd vs nvidia or liberals vs. conservatives. In the real world it's called a presidential debate. You're just fighting a losing battle.
And as per usual, you're free to either read or not read anything on the internet.

Make a separate "Anything goes" forum that requires a REGISTERED user to acknowledge certain rules (no name calling, blahblahblah) before being able to view and/or post in it. Go in and post/read at your own risk.

You must not hang out at Xtremesystems then. There's whole forums full of people who have been banned from there.

And as for why we enforce the rules, there's tons of places where anything goes on the internet. This isn't one of them. The moderators have been asked to do our best to keep things civil and PG-13 in order to promote that friendly and helpful atmosphere we're known for. That's not possible when there are no repercussions for acting like an asshat.

Analogy time. Think of this place as a restaurant. Everyone is welcome to come in, but if you start grabbing the waitresses or waiters and screaming at the other customers you're going to be escorted to the door.

EDIT: and in the case of the reported post that enaberif made, he reported a user for spamming the forums. Within 30 minutes, 3 moderators reviewed the reported posts and user. He'd been a member for over 6 months, but was 7 posts shy of meeting the 25 post requirement to post a WTB BST thread. He took the time to find some threads that interested him, and his replies were judged to be on topic and relevant to the discussion.

For every person on HWC that wants moderators out of a discussion, there is another on who demands they step in. No way to keep everyone happy.

I'd say this place is only moderately moderated. Most other PC forums I visit are brutal. At least we usually get to have our say here before things get locked/deleted. I have my moments when I wish they'd back off but as stated above, sometimes we need to be saved from ourselves.

Honestly, I'm pretty happy with the way the forums are now. Save for a few people that toss on the tin foil hat a little too often, most threads are remarkably helpful and polite. I can understand keeping the politics/religion/guns topics out of the OT section. There's hundreds (or more) forums and sites where you can go and discuss them and get as ranty as you like. This forum's a pretty polite place and if the trend shows certain non-computer topics can't stay reasonable, why bother discussing them.

And respectively, this isnt a communist internet. Just a dictatorship website that you're allowed to leave. You're always able to leave this place and go talk about those topics some where else bud.

I dont think we're allowed to +1, but this is about as perfectly and succulently said as it can get.

I completely disagree. I find the mods here are pretty chill and have helped me quite a bit with issues and or escalations there were.

And 2nd I personally don't like the fact, you would make that assumption. You don't pay for this site to hang out. You are NOT a paid member, what they do and how long they take and or when they get back to you, is like whenever they can.

You are complaining like you are paying them for modding, I doubt they get paid for modding, but probably just do on a volunteer basis.

I think they do a pretty sick job. Thanks mods.
