Default Deleteing prices in the buy/sell/trade forum

Why is it people clear the prices of sold items? Makes it a PITA for others who are trying to get a feel for what a piece of equipment is worth so they know what to ask or if they are being over charged on the buying end.

I do it so I don't get PM's about items I've already sold. I replace the price with a big bold SOLD. If you were wondering about Branched's E8400/P5Q Pro combo I bought, he was asking $250+shipping. I've been looking for something like that for a while.

Heh.....

I've had a long running "discussion" about this topic over on Kijiji for quite some time. I'm in agreement with the OP that it'd be great to see the old pricing on things to allow for easy valuation, but it seems like we're in the minority on the subject.

I agree with keeping the "sold" price as well. In fact, I'd like to see FS threads with a specific format that makes it easy to navigate...

Much like Caldezar's FS thread: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...sion-more.html

or 3.0Charlie's thread: Winter extravaganza

I would like the layout to be like this:

Quote:
For Sale:

Item A - $11
- Description of Item A

Item B - $15

- Description of Item B

Item D - $99 - Pending!

- Description of Item D

Picture A
Picture B
Picture D

Sold Items:
Item C - $23 - Sold to Perineum!
There are some people that do this style already (You know who you are) and it's an absolute joy to view their FS threads. I like how 3.0Charlie puts the sold items in a quote box.

I actually close some FS threads when it's just a mass of crap with numbers all over the place

Anyway add another vote for keeping the prices that things sold for

Keep in mind guys that the asking price might not always be what the item was sold for. I like it the way it is. Also, if someone else took way less for a part because he needed the $$$ that doesn't make it fair if a few days later someone else is trying to sell the same thing.

I see both sides really. I understand that it's good to get a feel for used prices by what's sold already. But that being said, each item is so individual that sometimes previous asking prices could be misleading. (Like various sp's or die sizes on the same model cards)

But on the other side, I agree with crazyhorse. The asking price may not always be the sell price. Or in some cases it could be a straight trade. Top that with all the people sending PM's if the price is there, even if there's a sold sign right next to it, and I end up just replacing the price. But, that being said, I don't mind telling people what they sold for (in most cases) if I get a PM asking.

I always do stuff the same way in my threads, as it's easy to see what it sold for and if it's even sold or not.

Price - Item and Description - Status (Sold, pending, etc.)

For example:
$85 - Xigmatek NRP-751 - SOLD LOCALLY

I understand keeping the final price private as there amy have been negotiations or trades/other deals worked out but it would be nice to at least keep the original asking price which is not private since it is stated in the original thread anyway.
