I"m running the game @ max settings(1490X900) on my Quad 9850 and a 9800 GTX+ SSC and it is pretty typical looking and running of the first L4D.Maybe a little more gore which is alway"s a good thing

Yeah, maxed out at 1680x1050 I can still keep over 175 frames without issue. I don't think it's really any different though for graphics power compared to L4D1. Now, with that said, it definitely wouldn't hurt having L4D2.

I'm not sure I agree with that entirely zero. 2 things that factor in are:
  1. are you the host of the server
  2. are you the client
Source might have made the game; and I gotta be honest I haven't done any research on this game development wise, but when you throw 100+ zombies into a screen a slower system with gfx turned up even a little bit that computer is gonna shit the bed. The part that makes this game so great for me is the eye candy and turning it down simply isn't an option.

As a long time FPS player the quality of the gfx along with the speed are critical. That being said... left 4 dead 1 or 2 or 5 rules... I love destroying zombies! I've heard the vs mode in the 2nd one isn't very good this true?

When I tried the L4D demo back in the day (never tried L4D2 due to lack of interest), I was able to max it out with full AA at 60+ FPS constantly. As long as you've got a decent CPU, the engine is not very taxing graphically. Valve uses low-res textures in general, simple geometry, and a very basic dynamic lighting system, with a few fancy shaders on top to make the game appear to look better than it really does. Maybe L4D2 is a little more taxing, but from what I've read, it's not very system-intensive.

Seriously though, with the move to the Win 7 test platform in the next months, you will see a whole new set of games being tested.
