Default We should have a overclocking contest here.

These seem to get alot of real enthusiast on board and they get people from other forums to join.

The benefit of a overclocking contest is it kind of weeds out the people who don't have any interest in computers and just enter a contest to win free gear(e.g redflagdealers).

We need more people on here too. For the most part HWC is one of the most friendly places out there, I find places like extremesystems becoming more and more of a playground for fanboyism.

One contest I know 3oh6 can appreciate is a low clocks contest or efficiency contest because it gives everyone a better chance. Otherwise we might as well name any overclocking contest here, free gear for 3oh6.

If we could get sponsors for this contest, its even better because we might get some companies to start looking at canadian benchers, although I can imagine alot of none canadian benchers being participants in such contests.

This would be cool, but I would hate to see people burn out their chips just to win something.

The contest should account for highest OC, fastest SuperPI, etc. times and anything that really sticks out to a clear winner. Obviously the people with the more expensive gear, so it would have to be categorized to numerous degrees.

The problem with contests like these is that it caters to the enthusiasts and not the entire HWC community, so really it doesn't benefit at all, other than for e-peen.

We already got a hwbot team if you like a bit of competition among fellow HWC'ers; hwbot.org - Profile - My Team.

As for anything larger/bigger, I agree with bojangles, it would be cool, but there are way too many possible issues.

That why I said something along the lines of a low clock challenge(efficiency). Put a limit on the CPU clock or something. Maybe even have multiple categories.

The only problem with this is that you'd have high end processors at lower speeds, but they're way better at crunching numbers because of their architecture pipeline and cache capabilities (i.e. i7 vs C2Q). It's really a lose-lose situation.

Not really, if you bench stuff within it's own category things should be fair for everyone. We should use HWBot for proper verification of results....! Great Idea!

as was stated above you could catagorize into single, dual, quad, and I7 CPUs and within that you could seperate into sets of stock CPU clock rates.

Split the dual/quad into AMD Duals, Quads Intel Duals and Quad as many AMD Duals are quite crappy compared to intels (clock for clock)
