Nothing personal, but I really don't know why sites have to mess with something that works, just for the sake of change. Sorry, I can't give this one a "Dam Good".
THIS. I don't mind the new layout, I don't mind the logo "text" being on the left instead of the right but the logo new "text" is WAYYYY too generic, I dislike it ALOT.

The old "text" one had that "feel" where I was like "I'm at HWC" and "I'm at Home", this new one makes me feel I'm at "generic tech site based off a template #50436322632325".

LOL. It was actually Generic Text Font #26.

IMO, people put far too little emphasis on how important a logo is and I think you are all demonstrating how much you cared about the old one.

and yet ( not to be rude ) they appear to be ignoring us and using the new one instead.

To me that is NOT listening to your userbase.....

Just because it hasn't changed to your liking in your time frame does not constitute ignoring. One can take a suggestion under advisement and make a decision based on feedback, but it doesn't have to follow said suggestions to the letter.

Also - if you took the time to take the old font (which is just some white with embossing and inner shadow fyi... the new one has more depth and layers... just in case you thought it was simpler/blander) It does not fit with the design of the new website.
Gav said previously if you have ANY suggestions with a logo/header that may suit the website better to submit the idea.
Complaining about a problem without presenting a solution is useless

Keep in mind - the beaver in a sense is our Icon/Logo, the text merely lets you know the name - after you read it once, you don't need to read it again.
You don't need "toms hardware's" text to know where you are, you see the hammer and you know. You don't need HARDOCP to be spelled out to know that [H] is hard. You don't need fancy text to tell you that when you see a beaver with a toothpick... your at HWC

The old one had character in the same way your 1980's Jalopy had character... time to dive into the new Web 2.0 folks and embrace the changing technology like we write and read about. I would feel safe saying that HWC wants to moving in the direct as a tech web publication of sorts - not just some website that does the occasional review. The material our reviewers produce is to good to just be featured on bland homepage that you visit every couple of weeks.

You misunderstand what I was saying FixT.

Yes I did present a solution...that was to put the old banner BACK as per requested by both members AND staff in the last few pages. Of course it is up to the admin...but I would have considered what the members say as well and tried to compromise with them. I am not saying " I hate it and I demand that you change it back because I said so "....I am just providing feedback as per the title of this thread. I am not demanding anything at all.

Newer is not always better. ;)

Like I said before, it took tome getting used to, but I actually like it now. Plus, that banner has been used on the other webpages like the HWC Store and Comparison Charts. It's been around for a while...

I'll see if I can get my buddy to whip up something on Photoshop later in the week, because I SUCK at it lol.

I don't believe that we are being ignored. In fact, Gav has posted in this thread and responded to some of our suggestions.

I have complained about the new font for the banner too, and I favour the old one instead. However, I have not seen the new font on the new banner and page...perhaps it does not work with the cleaner look of the site?

In any case its not a deal-breaker. Our input was requested, and they will follow some suggestions, try and reject others, and outright dismiss some.

The only thing that would severely tick me off would be one of those full-page flash ads that interrupt what you are doing!

I've only been looking around at it for a few minutes at most, but I do like the way that the site has been re-modeled.

I don't mind the new banner so much, as long as the beaver keeps his spot.

[H] doesn't fit your example at all, [H] has been using the same, as you put it "old and simple" embossed font for AGES, when I think [H] I ALSO think of the old embossed text. They don't find a need to remake it just because we are in the "web 2.0" era, and neither should we.

Same with HWC, when I think of HWC I think of the beaver with the toothpick AS WELL AS the old, hard embossed, chrome-ish text. It was home, it felt comfortable, I knew where I was. The old text may not of been the "prettiest" thing in the world, but damn it, it was unique, and it was home.

I also didn't say anything about the difficulty and time spent on the the new text/font, simply that it looks much more GENERIC than the old one did.

AGAIN, I LOVE THE NEW *LAYOUT*, I just stongly *DISLIKE* the new text/font part of the logo, and I'm NOT alone on this as many other users have spoken up against it in this thread.

Unlike the front page layout, which is much better now, when it comes to the logo, change for change sake is BAD m'kay.
