Default Auto Sigs?

Preface: I haven't bothered with the search function
Suggestion: Add some forum specific formatting for signatures? A second signature field just for system info? A dynamically generated display field? Option to turn off sigs or system sigs or both? Or move it to somewhere in the header area like the folding badges? Unified formatting or basic formatting? Option to roll your own?

You should bother with the search function.

Good suggestion joeperson. When it comes to sigs I'm somewhat of a minimalist and its become a pet peeve of mine when I see peoples giant sigs that go to the enth degree to highlight their system specs. I'm of the mind that if your sig is bigger than your post then your not saying much and I'd rather not even spend the time reading. I don't think HWCF suffers from users with billboard sigs like many other sites have but the option to somehow limit or block sigs would be cool.

I do wish that I could post an auto-updating link for Boinc stats in my sig or when needed, count-down timers. Would be nice.

Not really thinking about controlling what people can place just adding things that take it from a random scattering of similar information to something more uniform and easy to setup. Through an extra optional form into sign up, or elsewhere, that makes it easy for someone new to list the information most useful to others in the forum.

As to "giant" sigs, I have noticed some people that have 2-8 computers to be proud about. Obviously they would not be be best severed by forms setup for a single system. There are various information sources for the people running folding@home and that HW thing I haven't read much about. A check box and a url link might be a better way to integrate them into forum then adding them as just one more thing in a sig. Not to mention exposing said states to a large group of people.

MacJunky: off hand comment or has this been discussed before.

mr. negative,
Could tack this thread onto that other one or I can summarize it if you want. I'll say this through they may be similar ideas but the implementation is different :P

Comments from someone working on any changes would be nice. Since that thread went no farther then ".. look into it..."
